Frequently asked questions

What the recommendation means.

Short answers about scoring, data, prices and what to check before buying.

Is the number-one camera automatically the best camera?

No. It is the strongest match for the answers you supplied and the cameras currently in the catalog. Change a must-have and the result may change.

Do affiliate links influence the ranking?

Commission rates never change the fit score. For a purchase recommendation, a model must also have a model-specific source and a reviewed retailer link; otherwise it remains a research record. A link is not proof that the item is in stock.

Are the prices live?

No. Prices shown by CAMERASTART are approximate editorial guide prices. Use the retailer button to check the current seller, variant, price, availability and delivery conditions.

Does the budget include a lens?

In the guided finder, you choose whether the limit applies to the camera body or a ready-to-shoot set. The set estimate includes a suitable starter lens when one is required, plus a basic battery and memory-card allowance.

What is the difference between the purchase shortlist and research archive?

The purchase shortlist contains hand-entered models with a model-specific source, recorded key fields and a reviewed retailer link. Research records can be incomplete or older and are not presented as a buy recommendation. Neither a manufacturer link nor a structural audit proves that every field has been checked.

Why does an action camera use different comparisons?

Electronic action stabilization is not the same as sensor-shift IBIS, waterproofing is not the same as ordinary weather sealing, and action-camera runtime cannot be compared directly with still-photo battery ratings.

Can I compare a camera I already have in mind?

Yes. After receiving advice, use “Why not this camera?” or replace any model in the comparison table.

Can I save or share a result?

Yes. The share button creates a URL containing only the selected answers. It does not include a name or email address.

How can I report a wrong camera specification?

Use “Report an error in this camera” on its advice card. Your email app will open with the model and record ID already filled in. We still need to check every report against the exact variant and a model-specific source.

Should I buy without checking anything else?

No. Confirm the exact product variant, included lens or accessories, warranty, return policy, current firmware and total system price before purchasing.
